Original Text: Superboy may have been the most successful attempt at cloning Superman, but even he could be improved on. So for today's #SupermanAnalogue, let's talk about Match;
Match was a creation of the Agenda, a rogue science group that splintered off Cadmus. Using Superboy's DNA, they created an albino copy, however they also augmented him. His knowledge base was more extensive and his control of his powers were far more precise.
Match was stronger in all ways and could use his TK for various effects like going invisible or changing colors by bending light or shooting lasers by accelerating ambient light. As a result Superboy was always outclassed, save for when he was magically transformed into an adult.
Match eventually infiltrated Cadmus and Young Justice, posing as Superboy, leading to the Sins of Youth arc and the death of Superboy's love interest Tana Moon. After that he would appear from time to time as a threat.
After Superboy was retconned as a Cline of Superman and Luthor, Match was brought back as a more stock Bizarro, due to his body degrading. Not going to lie, I hated this version and thought it was a waste of a character. Anyway, I don't think we've seen the character since New 52
...
Well, that's what I said five years ago, but since then he's been a regular character in the more recent Suicide Squad books. Initially teased to be the Kon-El Superboy, it was later revealed to be Match!
He had a relationship with Nocturna which was pretty cute. I dug the take on the character: he was sapient and rational but unstable due to the issues with his cloning process.
Match was a fun twist on the Bizarro concept: a superior clone that still has some of the issues of being a clone like the discoloration. He reminds me of Thailog from Gargoyles... also Spider-Cide from Maximum Clonage... anyway, I always liked Match!
