Surviving Mars #1 — The Basics, Exploration, and Maintenance
Welcome to a brand new game on the channel! This time it's Surviving Mars, a city builder where you need to build a sustainable colony on Mars!
I need a bit of a break from Skylines, so I thought "why not another city builder from Paradox?"
In the first episode, we go through the tutorial, First, on the basics like camera controls, building stuff, gathering resources (did you know there are concrete deposits on Mars?), commanding our army of drones, and so on. We get to lay down some cables, some pipes, and make some fuel to get rid of the rocket that's been taking valuable space.
Then it's time for rovers. and that's the first unique mechanic of this game — some of the units you can control yourself, instead of having to count on their AI! The rover allows us to transport goods wherever we need without having to hope that goods from overflowing extractors get to resource-starved factories (looking at you, Skylines)
The rover can also gather materials so we can prioritize extraction manually, and it can be used to transport resources from one stockpile to another. Every city builder should have something like that, if you ask me! Another rover can carry drones to wherever you need something built. I really like the amount of control this game gives you!
Time to explore! We need to build a tower and a generator to scan nearby areas so that we're able to expand our colony even further, and to uncover any secrets buried in the Martian soil. With an insta-scan drone used and an anomaly uncovered, we have enough points to get to the tech tree! And hoo boy, do I love me some tech trees!
More like tech columns, but you get the idea. Research. Development.
Lastly, we learn about the minutiae. Facilities need maintenance, they can work in shifts, they can be dismantled and whatever remains can be demolished. We can order resources if we have enough money, our rover can be used to gather more resources, and colonists need water.
And they live in glass domes! Domes we will try to fill with colonists in further episodes!

Build domes and infrastructure, research new possibilities and utilize drones to unlock more elaborate ways to shape and expand your settlement. Cultivate your own food, mine minerals or just relax by the bar after a hard day’s work. Most important of all, though, is keeping your colonists alive. Not an easy task on a strange new planet.
There will be challenges to overcome. Execute your strategy and improve your colony’s chances of survival while unlocking the mysteries of this alien world. Are you ready? Mars is waiting for you.

Inspired by the classic sci-fi of Asimov and Clarke, Surviving Mars holds many secrets. During each playthrough players may encounter one of Mars’ individually crafted mysteries. Uncovering these secrets might bring your colony great fortune, or terrible ruin. What is that sphere that manifested itself outside colony HUB B, and is it friendly?
* Randomized research tree *
Combine static and random research through experimentation, which allows for a different experience for each journey through the game. Attain new scientific breakthroughs by exploring the uncharted terrain of Mars's surface.
