Cities: Skylines — part 94 — Forestry Improvements & Train Woes
Our forestry zone has become too productive for its own good, and all those wares need to be moved somewhere. That means clogged roads we have to fix.
First, obvious improvement is a roundabout at the entrance to Oak Park. Now that it's connected to Beech Hills there's a lot more traffic going through there, and it has to be handled. A roundabout helped at the exit of that road, so it will surely help here as well.
Some modifications nearby have to be made to make the travel smoother, and of course we couldn't do without decorating this roundabout as well.
Next is a crossing on the opposite side of the zone, the one where all the trucks coming back from the cargo terminal have to cross. With another roundabout and some reorganization of nearby roads, that should be patched up decently-well as well.
We seem to import a lot of raw lumber. That means there's simply not enough trees grown and chopped at home, we have to fix that. Hopefully a new span of road with some tree plantations won't make traffic much worse than it already is. If anything, it should reduce the traffic that goes towards the cargo terminal.
After tweaking a few more roads, we notice a significant clog caused by the lone toll booth. Every car there wants to go through one lane of that booth and one lane only, even though a good three of them could be used to the same result. Oh well, the best solution seems to be to just get rid of it. And so we do.
Then, we decorate some pieces of that highway because why not, add a bypass lane that'll make it easier for trucks coming out of the Oak Park terminal to get into the highway, and we notice a significant issue with trains backing up.
This time, however, it is not due to my mistake! It turns out, the game simply cannot despawn those trains fast enough, and they need to wait at the edge of the map...

Cities: Skylines is a modern take on the classic city simulation. The game introduces new game play elements to realize the thrill and hardships of creating and maintaining a real city whilst expanding on some well-established tropes of the city building experience. You’re only limited by your imagination, so take control and reach for the sky!
*Multi-tiered and challenging simulation*
Constructing your city from the ground up is easy to learn, but hard to master. Playing as the mayor of your city you’ll be faced with balancing essential requirements such as education, water electricity, police, fire fighting, healthcare and much more along with your city's real economy system. Citizens within your city react fluidly, with gravitas and with an air of authenticity to a multitude of game play scenarios.
*Extensive local traffic simulation*
Colossal Order's extensive experience developing the Cities in Motion series is fully utilized in a fully fleshed out and well-crafted local traffic simulation.
*Districts and Policies*
Be more than just an administrator from city hall. Designating parts of your city as a district results in the application of policies which results in you rising to the status of Mayor for your own city.
*Utilize the Day and Night Cycle*
The city changes during the hours of the day and affects citizen schedules. Traffic is visibly slower at night and some zoned areas do not work with full efficiency. Cities: Skylines will put you in control of managing the different aspects of the day and night cycles.
*Extensive modding support*
Build or improve on existing maps and structures. You can then import your creations into the game, share them as well as download the creations of other city builders on the Steam workshop.
