Susan Rice, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations says the Syrian crackdown that has led to what rights groups say are hundreds of civilian deaths "abhorrent and deplorable," supported the push for a Security Council condemnation and also accused Damascus of seeking help from Iran. "Syrian security and military forces continue to attack civilian protesters, while the government continues to seek Iranian assistance in repressing its citizens through the same brutal tactics that have been used by the Iranian regime. The Syrian government must stop the arbitrary arrest, detention and torture of civilians especially journalists and activists," Rice said.
