Suzuka 8 Hours 2 Arcade
The gameplay is much the same as that of the original.
Handlebars: Use the handlebars to steer your bike (white for Players 1 & 5, red for Players 2 & 6, black for Players 3 & 7, and green for Players 4 & 8) left and right just as you would with any real motorbike. Unlike in the three Final Lap games, the player bikes are not affiliated with specific teams.
Gas Pedal: Step on the gas pedal to accelerate your bike. The harder you step on it, the faster your bike goes (until it hits another bike or billboard).
Break Pedal: Step on the break pedal to decelerate your bike. The harder you step on it, the slower your bike goes until it stops moving completely.
Hi/Lo Shift: Use the gear shifter to change the gear that your bike is driving in (as with all 3 Final Lap games, you should start it out in low gear and shift it into high gear once it has reached 100 km/h). Unlike in FL2 and FL3, the shifter's position is not displayed in the screen's bottom-right corner.
If a single player is playing the game alone, then his position in the race will never change from 1/1, regardless of how many of these blue CPU-controlled bikes he passes; however, if multiple players are playing this game simultaneously when four two-player cabinets are linked together, and any of the other players are ahead of the first player at any time, the first player's position will be 2/2, 3/3, 4/4, 5/5, 6/6, 7/7 or 8/8.
This time there are four different tracks to choose from - the original Suzuka Circuit (making its fifth appearance in a Namco racing game after PP2, FL, FL2 and the original S8H), the "Green Hill Circuit" (which despite its name, does not take place in the initial Zone for Sonic the Hedgehog), the "Bayside Raceway", and finally the "Devil's Canyon Circuit".
That Green Hill Circuit is the easiest of the four tracks (and is recommended for novice players); once you have mastered it, you will be ready to move on to the Bay Side Raceway (which is the equivalent of the Monacan and San Marinan tracks from FL2 and 3). Once you have mastered it, you'll be ready to move onto the Suzuka Circuit from the original game which is now the equivalent of the Italian and French tracks from FL2 and 3 - but that Devil's Canyon Circuit is the hardest of the four tracks, and is only recommended for expert players or those who had managed to master the England track in FL3.
