Better late than never, we finally had the chance to try what this game is really about: the Team Racing mode. We go for the Co-op option for starters. Vid timeline:

Our first time switching from Standard Race to Team Race meant there where a couple of things we needed to keep in mind.
First is that in every 3-man team, whomever is first, will create a "track tail" for the other two in the team to follow. We seen this tail concept before with Asphalt: 9 Legends. But here, the effect is that the Ultimate meter this game features is charged. I suppose if both teammates get on the tail, the meter will charge faster. Activating the Ultimate sends the Kart on maximum overdrive.
Ways to extend the duration of the Ultimate are all members of the team activating it at the same time. And using it to ram opponents.
The other thing to keep in mind is the sharing of power ups. For this, one would have to coordinate closely with teammates to figure out the which, to whom and when is best!
