Tak and the Guardians of Gross Wii Quick-Play
For those who didn't know, Tak and the Guardians of Gross is a licensed game based on a Nickelodeon TV show that's based loosely on the underrated Tak and the Power of Juju Trilogy made by Avalanche Software. The TV show to put it lightly was not very good.
Guardians of Gross' gameplay is somewhat reminiscent to something like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time in terms of the parkour gameplay except you don't have any sand tanks to rewind time like in that game and Tak can double jump unlike the Prince, the combat is not so much like that game as while you can parkour over enemies to hit 'em from behind like that game it's not as satisfying, plus the jump attack renders it somewhat unnecessary since it stuns most enemies, not that you'll actually die if you get hit too many times since outside of falling into bottomless pits or water you can't die in this game to my knowledge, at least not in the platforming levels. The main incentive for collecting the glowing magic orbs is to fill your Juju Nova gauge which is a screen nuke that is generally good for large swarms of enemies, falling into pits or a body of liquid or getting hit reduces your gauge but it's easily recoverable. Hit detection on Tak's basic attacks can be somewhat wonky at times from my experience, which is why I usually stun basic enemies first with the air attack.
A good small portion of this game is dedicated to doing some mini-games that use motion controls (unless you play the Ps2 version where you have a traditional control scheme, or if you play on Dolphin and map the controls), and surprisingly the motion controls aren't bad or intrusive in this game, I normally don't like motion controls too much unless it's a mini-game collection or if they're used very sparingly.
The game doesn't have a native widescreen option under normal circumstances nor does it have a widescreen patch, so I enabled the widescreen hack from Dolphin's Graphics config, so if you notice any objects or collectibles not being there until I get to them that's probably why.
The game's okay, but there are better options out there if you're looking for a 3D platformer, like Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams or Jak II.
