Tak and the Power of Juju (100%) Part 3
Part 3. Not sure how I really feel about this one. I want to like it. It's got some really fun stuff mired by some pretty bad stuff as well. It becomes a bittedious if you're going for 100%. The 3D platforming is solid. You don't get control of your jump in the air so where you jump is a commitment. It takes some getting used to but not a problem. You don't have any invincibility frames after taking a hit so you can get stun locked to death. Still the game is forgiving with checkpoints and an infinite life system. You get some cool power-ups that I rarely used, but they can be helpful. There also is a bit of puzzling involved sometimes which is a nice break from bashing little goblin faces. Speaking of breaks the game has 2 separate snow/sandboarding sections to mix things up. On strictly face value it's not that bad. The controls are forgiving and there are checkpoints on the snow slope if you fall down one of the numerous holes. There are tons of tricks you can do for a score which does give you a speed boost. That boost is necessary for grabbing the ungodly amount of collectibles strewn throughout a timely auto-scroller. This was my biggest issue, exploring an auto-scroller with tons of varying paths is not great design. The worst part is when you find a collectible at the end of the course in a hard to reach position and it costs you minutes at at time to try just once to grab it. And if you fail it's back to the top to try again. I did this for hours to try and grab all the Yorbles, what the purple collectible spheres are called. It's really rough and time wasting. Doing one was fine but two was a bad choice. The rest of the game is fun. There are some challenging sections and trials that do take some time, but they are a bit fun. All of the bosses are gimmick fights, which are pretty fun and not too hard. The graphics are cartoony and colorful, which I'm sure match the show it's based on. I enjoyed exploring the areas and there is a decent amount of variety to keep things from being stale. The music is also pleasant though nothing to write home about. This game does have some really fun moments and good challenges, it also has some anoying areas as well which hold it back from being great. It's fun but flawed and it leaves me feeling a bit let down. Enjoy my blind playthrough.
