We arrive in Port Belkend as Natalia tries to reminisce with Asch, but he completely ignores her and says the city's to the south.

Once we get to Belkend, we head straight to Fon Machine Lab I. After walking around a bit, we see a man named Spinoza. Asch calls him a traitor to Kimlasca, and Natalia wants to know what he's talking about. Apparently Spinoza was involved in Asch's kidnapping and also broke the ban on fomicry. Jade tells him applying fomicry to living creatures is forbidden, but Spinoza says every fomicry researcher longs to try it at least once. Jade is no different apparently, considering he's Dr. Jade Balfour, the father of fomicry. ... Wait, what? Jade's apparently made dozens of replicas...

Spinoza calls him out on this, and yells at him, saying he has no right to criticize him since he did the same thing. Jade argues back, saying he knew what he had done, and that is why he forbade it. Spinoza says that he was only helping out with Van's preservation project, and Asch asks what he's talking about. Spinoza is surprised he doesn't know, and Asch yells at him to tell us. He says that he can't, that he shouldn't have mentioned it at all, and runs off.
