Hey guys, David Turnbull here from Nintendo 3DS Blog dot com. This is just a quick preview of Target Shooting which is an augmented reality game that's built into the Nintendo 3DS's operating system.
Now, augmented reality is really just a fancy way of saying "combine the real world and the virtual world with the use of a camera." You simply place down one of these cards - six of which are included with the 3DS - and this card acts as a reference point. Now, when you point the 3DS's camera towards this reference point when playing Target Shooting you can see how this target sprouts from the ground on an angle that makes it look like it's a physical object in the real world.
The aim of the game is to shoot these targets using the 'A' button. To get the best shot you have to physically move around your environment and position the 3DS on the correct angle. This mechanic is used to add sort of a puzzle element to the game, requiring players to discover hidden targets like this one buried in the ground.
After shooting a wave of targets a boss - in this case, a dragon - emerges from the ground for the player to fight. You can continue to attack with the 'A' button and dodge the boss's attacks by, once again, physically moving around your environment.
And that, in a nutshell, is Target Shooting for the Nintendo 3DS.
