Comments: Whew, fun map to record a TAS on. I wanted under 10 minutes, so I'm very happy with the time I got (under 7 is possible, but the final room requires luck with the cybers teleporting in, and it's getting boring waiting for the black screen to load). I started a UV-Max run months ago for this map, but I made a few major mistakes and quit, but it was terrible anyway, so I redid the entire thing. Tool usage upped a bit from Phml's run - permanent strafe50 added, and much of the run was recorded at 35% slowmotion.
Long description of the entire run follows:
At the start, I decided I wouldn't waste time killing all the chaingunners and just run through with a single SS shot; it turned out to be possible to do without receiving much damage and quickly, so I save a lot of time getting the BFG. Also, the turn at the shotgun and super shotgun isn't perfect (I waste time by turning around instead of just running backwards and turning), but I noticed that too late and didn't bother fixing it (doesn't take that much time anyway). I decided that it'd be faster to run through the yellow key area and generate more infights. One of the major flaws of my first run was leaving the pain elementals in the blue key area alive; when I left the red key area in that run, there was a gigantic swarm of lost souls over the switches that would waste time, health, and ammo to get past.
Red key area is where I go next, and it's rather straightforward; it was pretty easy to manipulate damage in order to get all the monsters killed in a small number of shots and create infighting because there are no archvile or cyberdemon swarms as in the other areas. I tried to get an infight between the spider mastermind and cyberdemon, but it's pointless; neither the cyber on the red key island nor the cyber on the blue key island can reach it with its rockets. I lost a bit of time with the attempt at the infight, but I was convinced of its impossibility too late and didn't want to redo it. The actual blue key area wasn't too hard with all the infighting, and the archviles I kill in three shots actually went down rather quickly. The archvile swarm behind the huge pillars, though, is wasteful to take out with the BFG and difficult to take out with the rocket launcher because the rockets can barely go through the gap. It might be improvable still, but I couldn't do much better than this demo.
The spider mastermind fell rather quickly, and the blue key area was pretty straightforward to clear out (luck is needed for those archviles at the soul sphere, since killing them and the cyberdemon without getting hurt or being forced to hide from the archvile fire is rather difficult). I decided not to bother with causing any infighting in the secret area, and I just BFGed as much as possible, thus losing no time, and it worked out, since, as I see now, the final area has enough cells to kill twice the number of revenants that come out (at least in TAS), and it seems like I could have been even more aggressive with my BFG usage earlier in the run (too late to redo now, though). The final area was pretty fun to record, though, as I already mentioned earlier, it got annoying waiting for the black screen to load.
