TASBot stabs a DS screen to let Twitch chat play Super Scribblenauts (MASHBot at AGDQ 2019)
Team TASBot members didn't pause to ask if they should and found they could prove no cheating by physically poking a DS screen. Impractical, but functional!
During AGDQ 2019 the TASBot team unveiled a replay device named TASBot that goes beyond anything ever created before to prove that what we do isn't "cheating". TASBot usually sends electrical signals through controller port cables, but in this groundbreaking showcase MASHBot creator Funkmastermp shows how we can interact with a console (in this case, the touchscreen of a Nintendo DS) using physical means. We do this all while allowing Twitch chat to influence how various puzzles and character dilemmas... often using lions with a very specific affliction dreamt up by Super Scribblenauts TAS author Chef Stef.
We discovered a timing bug in the original VOD due to its long length that resulted in chat being about 10 seconds later than it really was so voting rounds appear to end too soon but were correct in realtime. We hope to demonstrate this issue in detail in a future video. The CPM value shows an instant Chats Per Minute showing the raw number of new chat messages. We plan to expand this as well to demonstrate how the chat volume was so high that Twitch chat started lagging and queueing messages.
MASHBot is explained in detail by Ars Technica's Kyle Orland at https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/01/meet-mashbot-the-touchscreen-tapping-nintendo-ds-playing-robot/
