- Tekken 2 Longplay (PlayStation Version) - Difficulty: Hard -

Tekken 2 for the PlayStation 1 (PS1) was released in 1996 as a port of the original arcade version. While it's not among my favorite installments, personally, I consider it the most challenging game in the series. Words can't express the satisfaction of finally conquering it on the hardest difficulty.

With a steep learning curve that demands mastery of moves, combos, and strategies for each character, newcomers to the series - even on easy mode - may struggle to grasp the mechanics. Becoming an experienced player takes time, requiring deep exploration of the title's depth and complexity.

To be honest, my love for Tekken didn't blossom until the third installment, which I still regard as the pinnacle of the series. In my humble opinion the first two Tekken games were still finding their footing, characterized by stiff animations, graphics that didn't live up to the hype, and sluggish gameplay. However, while the original Tekken may lack challenge, Tekken 2 ramped up the difficulty significantly.

I meticulously studied every move, behavior, and strategy of the characters I faced, particularly with King. After numerous attempts, I finally triumphed by crafting custom game plans for each opponent. Memorizing their main attacks was crucial for defending and counterattacking effectively.

I realize that I squeaked out victories a couple of times too many; on the other hand, completing this game on hard mode without a single hit or loss of a round seemed unthinkable. Every risk I took, every move I made was calculated. Closing the distance with opponents was a strategic gamble; hesitation was never an option.

Now, it's widely acknowledged that the AI opponents were designed to adapt to the player's tactics, often causing frustration even for seasoned players. However, the beauty of it is that with strong perserverance we can do the same, eventually finding ways to outsmart them.
