Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines is a science fiction action film directed by Jonathan Mostow and released in 2003. It is the third installment in the Terminator franchise and features Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising his role as the T-800 cyborg. The film takes place 10 years after the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. John Connor is now living off the grid and avoiding detection by Skynet, the artificial intelligence that will eventually launch a nuclear war and wipe out humanity. However, Skynet sends a new, more advanced Terminator, the T-X back in time to terminate John and his future lieutenants. The T-800, who had been reprogrammed by an unknown person to protect John in the event of his return, shows up to help John and his future wife, Kate Brewster, evade the T-X and stop Skynet from launching the nuclear war.
