Terarin is back with another banger, and he raised the difficulty to a good notch! Compared to his previous games, at least. I love it!
It's a multi-weapon hori shmup in vein of Radiant Silvergun, albeit at much simpler arsenal. You can shoot and change speed. The weapons are the homing shot, front shot and back shot. That's it. That's... surprisingly simple, isn't it? For your defenses there are... no bombs. Which Terarin game that has a bomb again? But in exchange the game will give you shields that can sustain up to 3 hits. The shields are pretty plentiful, so that's nice. But that means no pattern skipping!
You also have this Roll Unit, which is your primary power boost. And for effective DPS, you need to stop shooting and fill the charge gauge. I think when in charge mode the DPS gets doubled. Not to mention bosses are most of the time shielded anyway, so it's a good idea to get used to the charging.
Things move fast in this game! Though primarily it's due to the fast background scrolling speed. But the bullets sure are on the fast side. And considering several situations demand different weapons, this game is both fast and tactical.
There are several annoying things to remark. Firstly is the shielded enemies. Boy, their hitboxes sure are well protected! And often at annoying angles! Goodness, Terarin! We can't aim diagonally here and the homing shot may not be able to do the job! Then there is the Gradius syndrome that kinda hurts. When you lose a life your Roll Unit will be removed. Survive long enough and even in boss battles the game will spawn it for you, but that's high risk of chain deaths. Last but not least, the extra popcorn spawns on boss battles sure is annoying! Good thing there is a consistent tempo for their spawn time but they can ram you out at the worst of times!
Certainly, play Terra Flame!
