Terra Tubes Shortcut in Battletoads (NES) - A Wild Glitch Appears! #shorts
5,129In Battletoads for the NES, there's a way to skip a significant portion of Terra Tubes. It involves using a simple trick to reach out of bounds areas right as the level loads. The glitch is easy enough to perform, but utilizing it in a way that allows you to make progress or save time in a speedrun for example is difficult.
To perform the glitch, simply hold the A button to jump before Level 9 begins. When the level loads, your toad will jump in mid-air, and you can use this jump to hurdle over the left wall (or the right one if you want, I guess).
After you jump over the left wall, there is a specific route you have to take if you want to use this glitch as a shortcut. You can explore and stuff, but unless you use this specific route, the checkpoints in the level will not load properly, and you won't be able to finish the level.
Once you fall past the section with the hand-helicopter things, swim to the right. You'll pass under two electro-robot guys. I suggest hitting the B button to punch to keep yourself from swimming too low or too high, because it's very easy to pass through the floor or the ceiling and step back into bounds, and then the exploit cannot be performed. It's pretty difficult.
Once you get to an area where you can swim upward without jumping through a floor, go up. You'll pass upward beyond another area with hand-helicopter things and swim through the floor to reach the section where the Death Cogs chase you. The timing for this is super tight, because getting zapped by a robot will pretty much always KO you or drop you into an in-bounds area where you don't want to be.
But if you can make it all the way to the first check point, you can save a lot of time. It's a great shortcut, even if it's hard as butts to pull off. Just make sure the gears start following you, or else you'll get stuck because the checkpoints won't load.
