Terraria: At The Range! Experiencing the Eclipse
[15/12/2022 EDIT: Seems Youtube's decided this stuff is popular enough that adverts need to be stapled to them. I do not monetise my videos, and have no control over adverts being placed on my videos as per Youtube's whims; I apologise to folks who are unable to circumvent these things for one reason or another. If you have a problem with this, my suggestion would involve killing the progenitors of the B-Movie. Or befriending them - we need more schlock!]
Having Fraps on at all times finally comes through for me!
A few Terrarian days after the Plantera fight, I've set up a small Chlorophyte farm in the caverns. It's a bit piddly, I know. But it's a slow-and-steady sorta thing, in case I'm caught short by a couple chunks or something. Next thing I know, "A solar eclipse is happening!", so of COURSE I need to get my special glasses out and go have a look. Unfortunately, the astronomical event was practically invisible behind the snowstorm and monster gibs.
The Solar Eclipse is a rare event in Terraria that happens during the day, where B-Movie monsters come to life and have their eyes on the player and the NPCs. Swamp Things, Frankensteins (kinda peeved at that name), Vampires, Reapers and Eyezors all come out to play, making for one hell of a massacre. Who gets massacred is dependant on how ready you are for the Eclipse to occur. They can only happen after you've beaten a Mechanical boss, so you won't get caught short as I did once. This is still on my Ranger character with only the Grenade Launcher added into the mix of items, so the loadout's pretty much the same. Just that the arrows are replaced with Jester's Arrows, and the Chlorophyte Bullets get followed by Exploding Bullets. Unfortunately, the Shotgun doesn't play nice with those unless they're used on a segmented enemy, meaning you can't fill an enemy with explosive buckshot.
Rather amusingly, the Terraria wiki claims that the mobs that appear are about as common as a zombie. When you watch this video, you'll wonder what made them think that.
(and if you must ask, I've not found a Magic Mirror, which is why I had to climb out of the caverns - hooray for small worlds!)
