Terratec Base-1 (Analog Devices AD1816J) playing Veil of Darkness music (OPL2 / ADFM)
Hello friends,
our next competitor in our FM comparison series will be Analog Devices. BUT before we start with that, in todays video i'd like to demonstrate the Analog Devices FM-synth playing a wonderful Adlib/OPL2 tune from the game "Veil of Darkness".
It is just a short replaying sequence, but i really like the melodic tune and i think the ADFM handles it very well. What do you think?
Tell us your opinion in the comment section down below, and be prepared for the next video when we start the vs.-comparison Yamaha vs. Analog-Devices.
Analog Devices is knwon for several audio-ic solutions even today, but back the days they entered the soundcard market quite late in the 90s. Thats why they never gain a noticeable market-share and were mostly find on low-cost OEM soundcards. Terratec sold AD OEM cards but also offer a retail version with the Analog Devices audiocontroller as entry-level model you can see in this video.
Remarkable is the stylish coloured pcb and the golden io-shield as well as the choice of dual mono op-amps which are low-noise and powerfull, but which i disabled by jumers to get a clean an comparable line-out signal.
The AD1816 Soundport is the successor of the AD1815 Soundcom. I haven't researched the differences right know but compared the FM and they are absolutely the same.
Veil of Darkness was developed by DreamForge and published by SSI in 1993.
