Gameplay testing Doom 3 in its first Xbox version on the Xemu emulator, running at 6x resolution compared to the original. Visually the emulation is quite correct, only seems to have problems with some transparencies, most notably when we are damaged, the screen goes black. Unfortunately, the sound emulation is a disaster, being a rather annoying cacophony of all the sounds that are supposed to sound at every moment.
Doom 3 was only released on consoles on Microsoft's first console during the so-called "128-bit" generation, as it was the most powerful and the only one capable of running the game, albeit with hard sacrifices. Technically it was impressive, even though the Xbox hardware was inferior to what the game required to run. The most noticeable graphical downgrade was in the textures, which were worse than on PC.
However, something much more important had to be sacrificed due to the low RAM memory of the console (only 64MB), and that is the level design. Many of the maps had to be redesigned and significantly trimmed compared to the PC version, and those that could not be trimmed directly were removed. As a result, the game is quite shorter than the PC original, as well as being much more linear. In any case, it is an interesting version to see how they made it work.
My PC: i9-13900K, RTX 4090, 64GB RAM.
