Ahh... Tetris Classic... I still have this game in its box, stashed somewhere on the top shelf of one of my closets. Developed by Sphere and published by Spectrum HoloByte in 1992 for ye olde floppy disk, it was later added to a compilation package on CD-Rom known as "Tetris Gold". Of all the revisions that exist of Alexey Leonidovich Pajitnov's original Russian masterpiece (not counting complete revisions like Panel de Pon, Tetris Attack, Tetrisphere, etc., but updates of the orignal formula), Tetris Classic is one of the best. It takes the same great gameplay of the original game but adds many more modes and is updated with beautiful illustrations and rich sounds while also telling a story, which is illustrated as you rise through the levels with elaborate pictures reminiscent to Russian lacquerware.

This story, which is based on a poem comprised of various songs by the masterful Russian author of the Romantic era, Aleksander Sergeyevich Pushkin, titled "Ruslan i Lyudmila" (or Ruslan and Ludmila), is one of valor and the forces of good combating evil. While I won't go into the specifics of what is being portrayed through each scene, It tells the story of the abduction of Ludmila, the daughter of Prince Vladimir of Kiev by an evil wizard named Chernomor and the attempt by the brave knight, Ruslan, to find and rescue her.

The only thing I found wrong with the game is that music doesn't loop quickly (takes a long time before music starts up again), though you can turn it off if you wish. Otherwise, enjoy classic Tetris with beautiful artworks and a variety of gameplay modes and options. This is a sample of the game in action, not going to quickly as too override the music. Enjoy.
