My childhood was atrocious on many levels. My sisters and I feared our parents so much that we hid behind furniture when we heard the garage door open. Broken bones were involved, too and two of my sisters ran away to become homeless to avoid the trauma. But I did get something valuable out of it. My conversation with my mother was very healing for me and for her. I hope it helps you, too.
