The answer to life the universe and everythin // WHAT DOES 42 MEAN ? #shorts
42 is the answer to the “ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything,” a joke in Douglas Adams’s 1979 novel, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
In The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, advanced alien beings build Deep Thought, a supercomputer, to solve the so-called Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. Deep Thought calculated the answer for 7.5 million years and came up with the number 42. Deep Thought, on the other hand, has no idea what question it was asked to answer, making 42 a completely meaningless response. Deep Thought is aware, however, that another supercomputer known as Earth was to be designed (by Deep Thought) to answer the question in 10-million years. Adams' joke implies that the search for a definitive explanation for existence is absurd and arbitrary.
