The Battlefield 2042 Beta was Kinda Dookie
7Just to get it out of the way - yes, I had a LOT of fun in the beta with my friends.
Having played every single DICE/EA beta since Battlefield 3, I understand that there's some betas that are very glitchy, and some that are very polished. Battlefield 3, Battlefield Hardline, Battlefield 1, Battlefront, and Battlefront 2 were pretty polished.
However, this beta brings me back to the days of how buggy Battlefield 4 was during its beta, and the first few months of release.
Aside from the bugs, I'm not digging the Specialists, and to prevent myself from echoing every single opinion already made from others about the Specialists - I want to just say that it feels like they were primarily making Battlefield 2042 a battle royale game, but somewhere during the middle of development they shifted towards making a full fledged Battlefield title.
The cookie crumbs are all there - pinging system replacing standard spotting, the weather gimmick, everyone being able to revive eachother, the existence of specialists, being able to modify your weapon mid-game at the click of a button, etc.
Overall, I had fun, but I'm looking forward to Portal a whole lot more than the base game if this is going to be the new normal.
