The Binding of Isaac: Repentance Part 19 - Just Another Cain Run
It's most definitely been a month since Repentance has released, so I can probably talk spoilers for a bit. But just in case you don't want any spoilers for Repentance, I would recommend skipping out on this series until stated. May take a while, though.
For the rest of you who have seen everything, this is the start of the next 17 episodes of Repentance, where I will showcase the Tainted characters. Everyone in the main game has an alternate form with different mechanics. Some are interesting, others make things way more difficult, and they all have their own completion marks. THAT is most likely the explanation for why there were so many achievements added into the game.
Today's episode is the character I wanted to definitely show off first, Tainted Cain. Cain has a bag that lets him turn pickups into any item he wants at the cost of not getting items in any other way. It's that simple. Theoretically, you can get the same items in every run if you know the recipes, but it's also dependant on whether the game will give you the pickups necessary. I recommend looking at the Wiki article on the Bag of Crafting itself to know exactly how maddening this mechanic is.
...and speaking of mechanics, let's talk those unlockable mechanics for beating Mega Satan with these Tainted characters. These range from Horse Pills and Golden Trinkets, which are buffed effects for Pills and trinkets respectively, two new cards in the Queen of Hearts and an Uno Wild Card, Wooden, Haunted, and Mega Chests that have their own reward pools, and even new interactable elements, like a Crane Game, a Confessional, a Rotten Beggar, and a shell game ran by a Dark Beggar called a Hell Game. There's other things too, since I didn't go over all the unlocks here, but the only one I have unlockes as of the recording is the Golden Penny. Unlike the counterfeit coin, this penny will spawn another golden penny when picked up and has a 5% chance to disappear with each time it is picked up. This can usually lead to a nice amount of money obtained in a short amount of time, with a little legwork to grab the coins when they spawn.
So yes, to summarise, there's a lot that they added to this game with Repentance. It makes sense why it is only slightly more expensive than the base game, given that it added in 19 Characters, 182 items, 234 achievements, 61 trinkets, and 30 bosses. It's definitely a recommend from me, chief.
