As a spin-off of the SpellForce series, Conquest of Eo is going for the fantasy 4X idea, with tactical turn-based combat in a formula reminiscent of Age of Wonders. Taking control of a powerful mage, you choose from Alchemy, Artifice, and Necromancy to create your playstyle. Each type has a large list of spells to research and units to recruit, along with apprentices and heroes to find around the world. There's a lot of 4X-style progression to be had here, and the combat is enjoyable, but the difficulty ramps up quickly, so be prepared.
