2014 Tribeca Film Festival Coverage:
At the film’s premiere at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival DREAD CENTRAL talks to director Ivan Kavanaugh about his eerie film THE CANAL.
SYNOPSIS:
The creepy Irish horror film THE CANAL tells the story of a film archivist (Rupert Evans) who finds his suspicions about a possible infidelity by his wife (Hannah Hoekstra) taking a darker turn—that might be connected to the murderous history of their house, and the growing possibility of the presence of an otherworldly entity. When his wife vanishes, all eyes turn to him as the suspect. As his world crashes in, he finds himself struggling on the borders between madness and the supernatural. A return to the classic, slow-burn style of horror, THE CANAL is both a chilling tale of the supernatural and an unsettling mystery.
The film’s director, Ivan Kavanaugh, discusses with Dread Central the strengths of the horror genre as a vehicle for low-budget but expressive and inventive filmmaking, some of his own influences and favorites from the genre, and nostalgic video-store VHS memories.
