The Canucks/Habs Trade That Would've Sent P.K. Subban To Vancouver, & Pierre-Luc Dubois To Montreal
Back in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, the draft order went as follows: The Toronto Maple Leafs chose Auston Matthews, the Winnipeg Jets got Patrik Laine, the Columbus Blue Jackets selected Pierre-Luc Dubois, the Edmonton Oilers got their guy in Jesse Puljujarvi, and the Vancouver Canucks got Olli Juolevi.
However, word from a few years after the draft highlights the possibility of a Vancouver Canucks and Montreal Canadiens trade, that would've seen P.K. Subban get traded to Vancouver, in exchange for that 5th overall pick that Jim Benning and co. held in their grasps. The catch? Pierre-Luc Dubois had to be available at #5 for the trade to go through.
Eventually, the Montreal Canadiens let it go and selected Mikhail Sergachev with their 9th overall pick in that draft, who was eventually traded for Jonathan Drouin, who remains on the team today. P.K. Subban was eventually traded as well, instead to the Nashville Predators for the current Habs captain in Shea Weber.
