The Chrisleys are going to jail
Todd and Julie Chrisley, reality TV stars, were sentenced to hefty jail terms on Monday after being convicted earlier this year on offences including bank fraud and tax evasion.
Todd Chrisley was sentenced to 12 years in prison by U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross in Atlanta, while Julie Chrisley was sentenced to seven years. Following that, each will spend three years of supervised release, and Ross has ordered them to pay restitution in an amount to be established later.
The Chrisleys rose to prominence with their show "Chrisley Knows Best," which chronicles their close-knit, raucous family. According to federal prosecutors, the pair participated in a massive bank fraud scheme before concealing their income from tax authorities while flaunting their opulent lifestyle.
Prosecutors said in a pre-sentencing court document, "The Chrisleys have built an empire based on the lie that their wealth came from dedication and hard work." โThe jury's unanimous verdict sets the record straight: Todd and Julie Chrisley are career swindlers who have made a living by jumping from one fraud scheme to another, lying to banks, stiffing vendors, and evading taxes at every corner.โ
