The City of Lost Children (1997) | PS1 | 4K* | Longplay Full Game Walkthrough No Commentary
Full game longplay of The City of Lost Children, an NTSC PS1 version of the game, released in May/June 1997. It is a movie-license based game, loosely based on the movie of the same title, released 2 years earlier, in 1995. Here is the NTSC version played on an updated Duckstation, with internal resolution put at higher than 4K (something like 12x resolution multiplier), with Downsampling: Box option, that preserves 3D and smooths 2D. Game is based on pre-rendered 2D backgrounds, and 3D models/objects. Recorded at 4:3 4K H.265 NVENC codec via OBS.
4K* - as the prerendered backgrounds are of course in 2D and comically low res, but in this case I decided to raise internal resolution over 4K for all the 3D objects/characters, they do stand out, but in this game it looks... okay-ish? Could be worse, and the important things can be focused on easily.
You play Miette, a character from the movie of the same name. The graphics are the style of 3d characters over rendered backgrounds. You travel through the streets at the whim of Pieuvre, the siamese twins who are your schoolmistresses. You do small robberies for them, but soon a larger plot emerges. Mysterious men called Cyclopses are kidnapping children to steal their dreams. You must determine what is truly happening in this adventure game.
