THE COMMODORE ARCHIVE: MINER 2049'ER - C64 - 1983
A conversion of the classic Atari original by Bill Hogue. Converted by Frank Tout, this is pretty much the same game with no real use of the 64s more powerful hardware.
A simple platform game, your task is to 'colour-in' all of the platforms to advance to the next screen. Death puts you back at the start of the level with all platforms reset. This leaves the game as somewhat frustrating and requiring pixel perfect jumping to proceed. However, the control in nice and responsive, the sound effects are sparse and there is no music.
A game I find equal parts frustrating and fun, an infinite lives cheat makes the game more of a puzzle feel and the need to complete all the early levels again cuts down on the frustration.
