THE COMMODORE ARCHIVE: ANCIPITAL - C64 - 1984
Another blast of that distinctive Minter Arcade madness. This one is one of his most Divisive as, although technically a single screen shooter, there are 100 screens to puzzle your way through and progress is achieved in multiple ways. Pushing up sends you to the other side of the screen and pressing fire mid trip will switch gravity by 90 degrees. It's full of his trademark bizarre sprites and twitch gameplay with a sort of epileptic drum machine hammering away in the background.
Happy to admit that this one really does nothing for me. It feels a little too random and the constantly depleting health bar is an annoyance. I know there are some out there that think this is his best work but it's a little too esoteric for my taste. Still a game you need to play to see which side you fall on.
