Today we are delving into the history of this gamemode and what makes it so unique in this game series. We will also go over why it’s not played or appreciated nearly as much as it should be, and to wrap things up we will go over a couple really good maps to try out when testing this gamemode for yourself to see if it’s something you enjoy.

Like all other play aspects of the CS Franchise, the Hostage Scenario gametype has seen many changes and facelifts since past iterations of Counter-Strike. One of the biggest changes is how the rounds were won for each team. It was actually much harder to coordinate and win as a CT team back in the day in games before CS:GO. This is because instead of having to only transport one hostage back to your spawn safely, you had to rescue at least half of the hostages and make sure there are no remaining living or un-rescued hostages before the time runs out. This means that some maps had more than 2 hostages at a time, which definitely changed the dynamic of how games were played in these older titles. The terrorists had to stay alive or run down time to zero before the CTs safely brought back over half of the hostages. The gamemode itself already kind of favors camping as a legitimate strategy for T sides, and with there being a tougher challenge to CTs on these older titles, it only demanded for the need of camping even more. As frustrating as it is, it won rounds for the Ts, so you would see it quite alot more back then. In all CS games the terrorist team could also win the round by killing all of the Counter-Terrorists, which is pretty straightforward as that is canon with just about every gamemode that exists in shooting games nowadays. The map design has stayed pretty straightforward as well, as the gamemode itself kind of favors a 3 lane setup, like something you would see in a game like league of legends. This is so that CTs are always on their toes when heading towards hostages, as well as leaving T’s on guard when trying to stop CTs in their tracks once they pick up the hostages.
