It is a common point of discussion to try and pin down what makes a game a shmup or not. In this vid, I provide my 3 criteria for what defines a game as a "traditional shmup" or not. I also explain that, while there are games that don't fit exactly into the 3 provided criteria, they still can be considered a part of the shmup family as alternative-style shmups.
