The Digital First Dilemma: Scary Warning Sign of Game Industry GREED!?
Sega releasing Sonic Mania as a digital only release initially, without giving any prior information on the now recently announced physical release points to a scary future in the video game industry.
Many small indie studios simply don't have the capital to spend on publishing physical retail versions of their games. Thankfully, companies like Limited Run games and Strictly Limited have come in to handle filling that market.
There is a greater issue creeping in slowly behind all of this, Large game companies like SEGA and how they handled the physical release of Sonic Mania is concerning. What does this mean for the future of physical game releases, and how do we as consumers stop the trend? What does it mean for a Cuphead physical release?
