The culture of doing things yourself is very widespread in Europe. I always find there are not as many customer service workers as customers. Therefore, regardless of covid, the DIY culture has persisted. In supermarkets, people do their own checkout, and don't have to go through a cashier. In Kenya, we are used to people slicing bread for us. In Europe, you pick the bread and use the bread slicer yourself.
