In this chapter, the would-be Nerevarine says goodbye to Gnisis and heads out even further North - in the general direction of the Urshilaku Camp, though the journey first takes her through the small settlements of Ald Velothi (where she rescues an unfortunate pilgrim from her slave owners) and Khuul, as well as through numerous encounters with madmen, dishonest thieves, Bonewalkers in ancestral tombs, and even a man-eating Ogrim inside a submerged cave. Finally reaching the Camp, Elen meets with predictable hostility on the part of the local Ashlanders, but at least wins their confidence enough to be sent off to their leader, who demands she pass through a dangerous initiation rite before even beginning to take her Nerevarine claims seriously...
