The Evil Within (2014, PlayStation 4) No Commentary Gameplay
I distinctly remember the first time I saw Resident Evil on the original PlayStation. My older brother just bought a PlayStation and Resident Evil was one of the games he got with it. At that time my brother and I really didn’t get along too well but I sat there and watched him play and then he let me play for a bit. As strange as it sounds, that was one of the first moments I can really remember getting along with my older brother. For a short while we formed a bond through video games before it eventually fell apart again as we both got older though. Regardless, I think that is why I will always have a soft spot for Survival Horror games. It always brings me back to that moment where my older brother and I actually got along.
The Evil Within is a Shinji Mikami game. For anyone not familiar with who Shinji Mikami is; he is director of the first Resident Evil game as well as the director for Resident Evil 4 as well as many other amazing games. He was the one of the creators that pioneered the Survival Horror gaming genre. So when I heard that he directed The Evil Within I was immediately on board. However, at the time I made the mistake of getting the game on the PS3 and when I started it up, although I could tell I was going to love it, after only about an hour or so in, I realized that I was not getting the best experience on the PS3. So I set it down and as time passed on I forgot all about it. I did eventually get it on the PS4 as well as getting the second one but still never gave the game a real go. But as October approaches and I get that Halloween/Fall feeling in me, I felt it was finally time to play The Evil Within.
