Final Fantasy VII Remake is a weird game. For every recreation of a classic moment it absolutely nails, it offers two new ones with mixed results. In a cynical world, one could easily attribute this to a troubled development and a lack of clarity in what the vision of the final product is meant to be, but I am not a cynical man, I am a troubled one, and I feel like there's something else going on in this game that might offer up some elucidation on why it feels like such a strange combination of legacy and meta-narrative. This video is an attempt to make piece with a fragmented game, and finally drive the last of the bad spirits from my soul so that I can move on with my life.
