The Full Story of the Elden Ring - Chapter 1 Limgrave

As a bit of necessary housekeeping before we Journey through the Lands Between, a new fantasy world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of the influential Dark Souls video game series, and George R. R. Martin,
I must give fair warning. This is by no means the finished product, instead but a small glimpse of the game during the available in the Closed Network Test. As such there is a tiny bit of lag & full transparency, you will notice I played on the Xbox One vs a Next Gen Console.
Plus there’s a healthy dose of spoilers ahead, in case you want to go in blind.
But for all of you who have braved until this point, thank you.
In this video we will focus on the lore of the starting area to acclimatize players to this new brand world as, its boast its own rich lore outside the souls franchise. As we begin to Unravel the mysteries of the Elden Ring’s power. Encounter adversaries with profound backgrounds, characters with their own unique motivations for helping or hindering our progress, and of course, discover an arsenal of fun weapons & gear to battle fearsome creatures.
Our journey begins in the fringe folk heroes grave. A damp cave with knotty roots lining the interior & full of coffins & corpses. Heading west we see a transparent yellow tree in the distance, as we head towards it , we see the lip of a cave with a significant drop that leads to a short in game tutorial, which for expediencies sake, we will skip however, the first mini boss The Soldier of Godrick, serves not only as a guide to test out combat mechanics but also Vanquishing this foe yields 320 Runes. An important note being runes are not only used as XP in the Elden Ring for Levelling up, but also is the in game currency.
Back in the main area, we can see the tutorial takes us out on a lip above its initial drop.
At the end of the first room is a small sprout of the luminous erdtree.
Which while we exit the hero's grave, gives us a moment to explain the Who & Why of Eldin Ring Lore which is inextricably tied to the grace giving ethereal plant.
All living residents of the game's setting (known as the Lands Between) are blessed by an artifact known as the Elden Ring - a mysterious source of power represented by the appearance of the mythical Erdtree.
This blessing is the aforementioned "grace" which the Tarnished, (we) have lost. Unlike other beings we will meet from the Land Between, the Tarnished have lost their connection to the Elden Ring, and their eye has lost the telltale golden aura which reveals one's blessing.
When the Elden Ring mysteriously shatters, the Tarnished are called to retrieve the ring's pieces from their owners ( which are the game's bosses) and reform the ring.
As Miyazaki put it, the main theme of Elden Ring centers around how the player "approaches or treats this newfound grace and this return to the land they were once banished from..."
Is it an opportunity for redemption or revenge? Will they treat those who exiled them with compassion or contempt? These are the kinds of questions the player must answer themselves as they progress through the game.
As we exit the cave & enter the vast, open world of Limgrave we see a vast castle on a cliff side to the northwest.
Our eyes follow the bridge to the east which ends at a foreboding tower that juts up from the earth.
Towering above all is the sacred Golden Erdtree, the source of grace seen as tendrils of light splayed out like fingers from its canopy. As mentioned, The Erdtree derives its power from the Elden Ring and, at least prior to the ring's shattering, conferred upon the inhabitants of the lands a golden aura representing its grace. A grace, we the tarnished have been disconnected.
