"The Goonies II" for the NES is a side-scrolling action-adventure game released by Konami in 1987. It serves as a sequel to the 1985 "The Goonies" game, based on the popular movie of the same name. The game picks up where the movie left off, plunging players into the role of Mikey Walsh as he embarks on a mission to rescue his friends, who have been captured by the nefarious Fratellis. Alongside this rescue mission is the peculiar quest to save Annie, a character introduced solely for the game, adding an unexpected twist to the storyline.

The game features a mix of platforming, puzzle-solving, and combat elements. Players navigate through interconnected rooms and corridors, encountering enemies such as bats, rats, and Fratelli gang members along the way. Mikey can attack enemies using a yo-yo weapon and collect items like bombs and slingshots. It has a non-linear level design, with multiple paths and hidden rooms to explore.

Every now and then the player encounter first-person point-and-click adventure segments. These segments are an interesting concept and adds variety, but fall short in its execution. Players are left to mindlessly cycle through a list of commands in each room, hoping to uncover hidden passages or items. The absence of bosses also diminishes the excitement a bit, leaving players to navigate through mundane environments without any significant rewards or milestones to look forward to.

"The Goonies II" has a sometimes confusing level layout and lack of clear direction, which can lead to frustration. However, its combination of platforming challenges, puzzle-solving, and exploration still makes it a fun and interesting game, and it has a catchy rendition of Cyndi Lauper's "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough" which is a great addition.
