"The Adventures of Lomax" is a 2D platformer game developed by Psygnosis and released for the PlayStation in 1996. The game features Lomax, a character from the Lemmings series, as the protagonist. Unlike the Lemmings games, "The Adventures of Lomax" focuses on platforming and action. Lomax is a lemming knight whose friends have been transformed into monsters by Evil Ed, a cruel lemming wizard. He must embark on a quest through Lemmingland to save them, and eventually defeat Evil Ed.

The game has a distinct and beautiful visual style, with warm and vibrant aesthetics. It has a medieval-looking setting with canyons, forests, and graveyard. The game is divided into four worlds, for a total of 22 levels. Each level is divided into a number of smaller stages, usually two or three. The goal of each level is simply to bring Lomax to the end. The controls are responsive and precise, crucial for any solid platform game.

Navigating through Lomax's world feels intuitive, with the protagonist having various abilities and powers acquired throughout the journey. He can do a spin attack, and also roll down steep slopes. Lomax can also toss his helmet like a boomerang to hit enemies at a distance. There are special powers Lomax can use while wearing a helmet, which have a limited stock that’s replenished by picking up icons. Some are used for platforming, others are for combat. Lomax will sometimes also find “natural” powers, for example the builder power, which makes Lomax drop floating platforms he can jump on, or the basher power, which lets Lomax claw through certain walls of soft dirt. Additional collectibles include coins, offering extra lives, and freeing spellbound lemmings. Releasing 50 lemmings triggers a bonus stage filled with coins.

Overall, "The Adventures of Lomax" offers a traditional yet engaging platforming experience with a mix of action and some puzzle-solving elements. The game starts out easy, but the difficulty soon increases as the player progresses. It doesn’t do anything new, but plays well. Best of all is the beautiful art style which is a real treat to look at while playing.
