The History of Mr Wimpy #zxspectrum #commodore #oric #retrogaming #c64 #sinclair #8bit #gaming
Mr. Wimpy, subtitled The Hamburger Game, is a platform game released by Ocean Software in 1984 for the Oric 1, ZX Spectrum, BBC Micro, and Commodore 64. It was a promotional tie with the Wimpy restaurant chain, and the game includes the Wimpy logo, mascot, and theme tune.
The game developers for Mr Wimpy were John Woods who founded Ocean Software. John wrote the Oric game.
Another interesting fact about Mr Woods is that he is a co-owner of Everton football club board. His family's involvement also stretches back to 1892 when one of his ancestors loaned the fledgling Everton £1000 to build the original Goodison Road stand. There you go!
Paul Owens wrote the Spectrum game. He is best known for writing the ZX Spectrum version of Daley Thompson’s Decathlon. Mainly concentrating on the ZX Spectrum, he wrote over 14 titles but also collaborated on many other games and other platforms including the Amstrad CPC
Richard Kay wrote the BBC Micro game. Richard went on to establish Software Creations in 1985 which is now known as Acclaim Studios Manchester.
Finally David Selwood wrote the Commodore 64 game and I don't have a picture of David.
