My favourite thing about the pathless isn't the cool movement mechanic, it's not the music, or the scenery, or the story or the bosses.
It's the birdie.
I love the birdie.
The bird acts as your companion around the world, he helps you pick up weights to complete puzzles and also allows you to glide through the air. And there is a dedicated button on your controller that allows you to give your bird a belly rub.
Why?
Because he's a very good birdie.
The boy's had a hard time carrying weights around, carrying my fat ass around. So his reward is that I'm going to rub his belly. it's the best part of the whole game. I loved this feature so much that I wanted to talk about a few other examples of this sort of thing in games. Most notably in Team Fortress 2, Fortnite, and Transistor.
