258The coronavirus hits the financial market like a blizzard. What happens in that parallel world, where stock exchange floors are closed, trading is regularly stopped, and some people already go bargain hunting? In this documentary, we talk to economists all over the world to get an idea of what kind of impact the coronavirus is having on our economy.
We wrote to a select group of financial insiders from all over the world and talked to them on March 20. Of course, we did not know how the stock exchanges would behave on this Friday. We did know that the financial markets had been unprecedentedly hectic the weeks before. It was perhaps the most hectic period since the financial crisis of 2008.
Our questions to the insiders were simple: how do you experience the roller coaster that the financial markets are now going through? How did you get through it? What did you do? What did you see? And where do you think we're heading to? The stories were fascinating, and we sat glued to the screen.
In this documentary, we use video conferencing to get an overview of the global financial markets. We talk to investors, traders, and financial analysts - from Beijing, Chicago, London, and Singapore. These are people who have a lot to loose but can often bear it. What does the coronavirus do to the world's financial markets?
