67As a risk manager at one of the largest Icelandic banks, Paul Moore explicitly warned his bosses that they were taking far too substantial risks. During the meeting, he was thanked for his advice; afterward, he was fired. At the top, his message was not welcome.
That was four years before the same bank went bankrupt. From that moment on, Paul decided that he no longer had to stick to his 'silence contract' and the whistleblower came out with his story.
The VPRO is touring Europe and European history. The series 'In Europe, History caught in the act' picks up the thread where the previous one ended: in 1999. Optimism at the turn of the century gave way to fear and confusion following the attacks on the Twin Towers, the credit crisis, an increasing flow of refugees, and an increasingly troubled relationship with Russia.
