The Incredible Machine (TIM for short) is a puzzle game released for the DOS and Macintosh in 1992. It had several sequels: The Even More Incredible Machine, The Incredible Machine 2, TIM - Contraptions and TIM - Even More Contraptions. Aside from the obvious improvement in graphics and soundtracks, the TIM games share the same concept: complete the task of each level by using crazy devices and parts like dynamite, nitroglycerine, food mixers, lasers, ropes, balloons, mice and cats, just to name a few. The biggest change in the series took place when The Incredible Machine 2 came out. Before it there was "The Even More Incredible Machine" on the DOS, but this was just a rehash of the first TIM, just with added puzzles and a few new parts. TIM 2 is widely regarded as the true sequel to the first game and it was therefore used as the reference for the upcoming games, TIM - Contraptions, and TIM - Even More Contraptions. Aside from more puzzles and soundtracks, no other parts or major changes were added to the game after TIM 2. From TIM 2 onward the levels are grouped by difficulty, so there's tutorial, easy, medium, hard and really hard puzzles. As you advance through the game, the levels naturally become more intricate and require more parts to solve. Some puzzles can get excessively cryptic at times, so much so that even after 9 years or so since I've last played TIM 2 at the time of making this video, I couldn't figure them out and I had to look up the solution online. So yeah, it's definitely a challenging game in the long run, which isn't bad considering the game is quite repetitive, so challenge is what keeps it from getting boring. The soundtracks are another positive aspect about the TIM series in general: very melodic and memorable, with plenty of variety. The game also has a level designer where you can mess around with as many parts as you want and create your own crazy chain-reaction machine. All the games in the TIM series are mind-challenging and yet fun to play. I definitely suggest you try them out if you haven't already !
