Review of Elite: Dangerous, an space combat and flight simulator developed by Frontier Developments. It is the fourth installment in the Elite series.

Elite: Dangerous is an open-ended futuristic space simulator where you can be an explorer, a scavenger, a fantastic trader, or a notorious pirate or bounty hunter. It is the first in the series to feature massively multiplayer gameplay, with players' actions affecting the narrative story of the game's persistent universe, while also retaining single player options.

With resurgence in space combat in the last couple of years - most notably with the development and exposure of Chris Robert's Star Citizen, how will Elite: Dangerous perform in the video game market?

The Initiative is a review and analysis series on newly-released PC games. The series will show my first impressions of the gameplay and features at face value, and analyze its longevity in the market and community.
