The main character of Unreal is Prisoner 849, traveling aboard the prison ship Vortex Rikers. The ship crash-lands on the planet Na Pali, populated by a tribal race of four-armed humanoids called the Nali. The planet is under control of the Skaarj (pronounced "scaar"), a race of technologically advanced reptilians.
Na Pali is rich in light blue crystals called "Tarydium", which possesses a high energy yield and is the reason the Skaarj have invaded the planet. The ship has crashed near one of the many Tarydium mines and processing facilities that the Skaarj have built. Prisoner 849 travels through the mines, meeting Nali slaves and eventually entering the ruins of Nali temples, villages and cities, where the extent of the population's suffering and exploitation are made clear.
The video game footage shown in this video was taken from Unreal Gold, which includes the expansion to the game: Unreal Mission Pack: Return to Na Pali, available for purchase on GOG.com.
Era Game Reviews is more than just reviews of older PC games from the 90's. The in-depth reviews not only discuss the basics like the graphics and gameplay, but also looked into the game's history, mods, culture and community.
