The Legend of Zelda was one of the first games that came out of the Nintendo Entertainment System, and it was heavily advertised on T.V.. That is how I knew about this game when I was a kid, and I bought this game with my allowance money. It cost about $49.99+tax back in 1986. The cartridge was gold plated, and the game was very fun and addictive. It was one of the first adventure games released on the NES. This game was part of my childhood, so I had to make a video about it. Playing it again at my age(40) was pretty challenging. I didn't remember the map of the game, so I had to use a map of the game to play it. If I did not, I would have spent many more hours playing it. I didn't play this game at one time to finish it, I recorded it in sections, and I put them all together when I edited the video.

I just can't image how easily I finished this game when I was younger, and I didn't use Nintendo Power's map to finish the game. I guess when you are a kid, you just have more time on your hands. In this video, I don't think I discovered all the secrets in the entire map of Hyrule, and I missed a few items, like the blue ring.

The Legend of Zelda was a isometric game, adventure game, but it was different from a traditional role playing game, because it was an action game as well. If you ever played a game, like the Ultima series in the early 1980s; that was a role playing adventure game. It was more like a game of probability, like rolling a dice. Based on your level of experience, your probability of scoring a hit was higher. Zelda wasn't like that, it was more action packed. This is why it had a greater appeal of kids and that was why it was fun.

Zelda was a challenging game, because as you went to higher levels the enemies were much more difficult to defeat. However, there were weapons, and equipment that offset the difficulty by increasing your hit points offensively and defensively. You could skip levels, because there is no chronology. You can pick the levels by locating them on the map, but it is almost impossible to pass the levels without equipment you got from previous levels. For example, you can't defeat the disk monster without a flute.

The significance of this game was that, it started a whole new franchise which started in 1986 and it exists even today. Many derivatives of Zelda were released for 28 years, and they made a sequel to Zelda in 1987. The first game was an absolute hit, like Super Mario. It was released on every new system Nintendo came out with.

All in all, The Legend of Zelda was a classic game, and it made Nintendo very successful.
