-Non-free items needed for primary objectives: none
-Non-free items needed for secondary objectives: 5 Bombs (used for various reasons in Kakariko Village)

(I am of course not listing the Sword since it is free. I will also not list certain later items beyond their initial necessity moments for reasons I will outline.)

You may have noticed that I say "effective" in front of Minimalist Run. This is because I will collect various items in the added interest of 100% Completion. Rest assured that the spirit of a Minimalist Run will be maintained. There will be moments where I will be wishing it wasn't. This is why I am listing what I use: as a recording of what is needed beyond doubt. I'll be organizing my listing around both primary and secondary objectives because hey, that system worked in Battalion Wars. Primary objectives will be what's needed to be done to beat the game, while secondary objectives will be the avoidable side stuff. I will also list demonstration uses of items for good measure, in case anybody has doubts about my involvement of them.

I may as well be getting these points out of the way with an episode that is basically just some early overworld exploration. Early portions of the game wouldn't be that exciting especially for a No Damage Run in a game where you gain a lot of buffer from added defense. Mostly, I'm getting given items from the Lost Woods, then handling things at Kakariko Village, before eventually heading out to the entrance of the Eastern Palace. The only remote hotspot is the bridge from Link's House to the Eastern Palace area, where there's 2 melee Soldiers and an archer Soldier. Normally, I could wipe the floor with those guys, but the way this runs operates, this is still a demand of maneuvering around them. Ironically, the Soldier just at the foot of the stairs with the Eastern Palace's entrance at the top can actually pull a sucker punch to require a bit more thought to outmaneuver without killing him (or using the Boomerang for the obvious solution), but not all that much.

There's also the checkpoint system that I'm using for this run, which is quite obviously segmented because I do NOT want to imagine doing this single-segment. The checkpoint system is based on the game's save system; when you save your game and then reload your save, you'll be at a given location based on where you saved. Saving in the overworld will have the location be a choice of Link's House (which isn't hard to reach) or the Sanctuary. If you save in a dungeon, you'll instead be at the start of that dungeon. This system can be used to save-warp if you don't care about the Triple Zero Run in the SNES version, but of course, I'm not going to abuse that facet. I'll be using savestates for checkpoints (although I won't record the direct evidence, haha), but that will just serve as the happy medium. Of course, there will be times where I will be wishing I could save-warp.
